Spalding Toyfair

Organised by J & J Fairs Ltd the Spalding Toyfair at Springfields Exhibition Centre in Lincolnshire is usually one of our most successful fairs and the 27th was no exception. Along with our regular customers treating themselves to some more TV memorabilia we also sold numerous fairies from our fantasy range. They're always a head turner despite what a certain other trader might say, mentioning no names but he has just treated himself to a very smart new Alfa Romeo.

Turnout at the fair was very good despite Sunday being the sunniest and warmest day for many a week.

Huntingdon Toy Fair

After a good day in the shop, Sunday the 20th saw us take up residence once again at the Huntingdon Toy Fair at Wood Green Animal Shelter, at not surprisingly Huntingdon. The fair is a large one organised by J & J Fairs Ltd.

There was a rather cold and damp start to the morning but that didn't seem to put off the punters. As usual they were out in force. Huntingdon is one of the best supported fairs by both traders and punters.

We had a successful day selling alot of smaller items, including some that we had had for a bit too long. It was good to see the back of those Vanguards, even if they were sold at a loss.

The fairies sold well as usual though it was a bit disappointing to find that Star Trek this time did not 'boldly go'. Still better luck with those at Spalding next week.

Saturday again

One week on after the launch of our shop Time Was... and with the disappointment of the cafe behind us we set to work to entice the Newark shoppers upstairs. Using fancy dress from our friends at 'Chuckles' the fancy dress hire shop in the Buttermarket we dressed as Mr Spock from Star Trek, complete with beard, (no time to shave it off!) and Captain Jack Sparrow, also complete with full beard, and we set off where no man has gone before.... into the clutches of the passing shoppers enticing them with Billy, an inflatable Dalek, and home produced flyers. Sad isn't it that the wives have named the Dalek, it's not as if he's from the Cult of Skaro!!

We think it was successful, we were a lot busier today than on opening day, though perhaps poundage was down. But more people now know we are here.

Tuesday 8 April 2008

Well it's all been going quite well in the first three days, but, and there is always a but, the cafe opposite has shut down without warning. This is a bit of a blow because it was one of the main reasons for folks to come upstairs in the Buttermarket.

Our we downhearted? No, we have plans to get people to come upstairs anyway, just a shame the cafes gone. They did a delicious Yorkshire Pud filled with sausage and mash!!

Our small but beautifully formed shop

Shop opening

After trading by e-commerce for a year at www.timewasshop.co.uk we have just opened our shop Time Was... in the Buttermarket in Newark on Trent, Notts. It may be small but it's perfectly formed.

Selling Sci-Fi TV and Film memorabilia as well as Fairy & Fantasy Figures we have already established some regular customers who have said that "it's about time a shop like this was opened!"

Stocking a large range of products the return of Doctor Who to our Saturday night screens has given an extra boost to ourselves.
